The Trout Hotel has been
at the centre of this
attractive market town
for many years. Dating
from circa 1670 the
hotel was originally
built as a private
residence belonging to
the local Egremont
Estate, and has been
extended over the years
before becoming a hotel
in 1934. The 1960’s saw
the hotel established as
the sport of fishing
became increasingly
popular on the Rivers
Derwent and Cocker, now
famous for their
excellent trout and
salmon fishing.

between the mountains
and the sea. You
are only a short drive
to the spectacular
scenery of the English
Lake District and to the
wild and unspoilt Solway
Firth. The town is
steeped in history with
it's own castle, ancient
market place and
interesting buildings.
The birthplace of
William Wordsworth is
located next door to the
hotel and Dove Cottage
is a short drive away.
